Properties of Dual-species Bamboo-Oriented Strand Boards Bonded with Phenol Formaldehyde Adhesive under Various Compression Ratios

Bamboo has a high potential to be developed into a composite product, an alternative wood resource. Bamboo oriented strand board (BOSB) is one of the promising composite product. In this article, Dr. Ihak Sumardi and colleagues evaluated the physical and mechanical properties of BOSB prepared with combination of two contrasting bamboo species and bonded with phenol formaldehyde resin under various compression ratio. The result suggested that dual species bamboo-oriented stand boards from G. pseudoarundinacea and D. asper strand using phenol formaldehyde were successfully prepared and might be applied for the commercial utilization.
