Pramesti Istiandari, M.Eng., Ph.D., mengkhususkan diri pada bioteknologi tanaman dengan fokus pada biosintesis triterpenoid pada tanaman polong-polongan seperti Lotus japonicus dan Abrus precatorius. Penelitiannya menggunakan studi genomik dan transkriptomik, profil metabolit, dan rekayasa genetika menggunakan CRISPR/Cas9. Penelitiannya menekankan pada pembuatan profil senyawa tumbuhan khusus menggunakan GC-MS, khususnya senyawa terpenoid. Dia juga mengeksplorasi rekayasa metabolisme pada Saccharomyces cerevisiae transgenik untuk produksi triterpenoid heterolog. Penelitiannya bertujuan untuk memperdalam pemahaman jalur metabolit sekunder dan memajukan aplikasi bioteknologi untuk produk nabati.
