Anti-inflammatory Activity of Indonesian Propolis in Zebrafish (Danio rerio) Larvae
Propolis is a resinous mixture of plant-derived material collected by honey bees and has been widely used as traditional medicine. In this article, Dr. Indra Wibowo and colleagues investigated anti-inflammatory activity of Indonesian Propolis using Zebra Fish (Danio rerio) as animal model. It was shown that Indonesian propolis administration to zebrafish larvae resulted in reduced myeloid leukocytes in the intestine, increased intestinal goblet cells, and decreased expression level of tnf-α. Overall, these results suggest that Indonesian propolis could be used as a potential agent to protect against inflammatory damage.
