Opening of International Virtual Course 2021 – Tropical Biology Summer School Series: “Insect Biology, Insect-borne Disease and Their Impact on Human”

School of Life Sciences and Technology ITB in collaboration with National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) Taiwan, held an International Virtual Course entitled “Insect Biology, Insect-borne Disease and Their Impact on Human”. The course will be held virtually in five days on July 12th – 16th, 2021. On this day, 12th of July 2021, the event was opened by the Dean of School of Life Sciences and Technology, Dr. Endah Sulistyawati. In addition, the opening remarks were also given by Prof. Dr. Andri Dian Nugraha as Director of Non-Regular Academic Affairs ITB, Prof. Dr. Shaw-Yhi Hwang as Vice Dean of CANR-NCHU, and Dr. Husna Nugrahapraja as the Committee PIC which gave an overview regarding this IVC.

The total amount of registered participants for this year’s IVC is 154 students. Half of the participants are came from abroad, namely Taiwan, Malaysia, China and Philippines. Most of the local participants are originated from different institutions other than ITB and share different backgrounds.  Not only students were limited to participate in this IVC but also professionals could take part in it.

The course will provide an integrated insight as lessons learned to understand the biology of insect, insect-borne disease and the impact on human, ranging from insect diversity and ecology, insect morphology and physiology, Dengue Fever and Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), Mosquito-borne infection, Integrated vector-borne disease control programs, to the further research direction within the field. The lectures will be given by experts from academia, researchers from research institute and professionals from industry.
