Limited dispersal and in situ diversification drive the evolutionary history of Rasborinae fishes in Sundaland

Pleistocene sea-level changes have long been used to explain the evolution of insular Sundaland biodiversity. In this article, Dr. Arni Sholihah and colleagues re-examined the relative impacts of #sundaland geology and of #pleistoceneeustatic fluctuations on the mitochondrial lineage #diversification of the widely distributed freshwater fishes from Sub-Famili #Rasborinae. The geographical patterns of divergence suggest that limited dispersal and #insitudiversification were predominant during Rasborinae’s diversity build-up, providing contrasted lines of evidence about dispersal of Sundaland #freshwater organisms compared to the initial, and highly influential, hypotheses.
