Laboratory Animal Research
Ischemic stroke (IS), the most common type of stroke, results from decreased blood flow to the brain. Given the limitations of current treatments, the exploration of new therapeutic candidates is vital. This review by Nayaka et al. (2025), featuring the work of Indra Wibowo, explores the latest applications of the zebrafish model in screening potential therapeutic agents for IS. The authors elaborate on key factors in experimental design, including developmental stage and strain, drug administration routes, induction methods, and experimental parameters. Ultimately, this work offers future recommendations for utilizing zebrafish in pre-clinical IS studies, serving as a valuable reference for establishing drug screening protocols using this animal model
